Why?

Risk management helps a project to better control the aspects of time and money, for example, by thinking in advance about potentially undesirable events and by taking timely action to prevent or reduce these events. It promotes confidence in the project (also among the clients and the project team), supports the decision-making process and promotes communication within a project.

How?

During projects, we pay attention to risk management at every stage. We go through the following steps in a cyclical process.

1- Identify the main risks

We make an inventory of the most important risks for the project. We approach the risks from different angles (financial, legal, technical, organisational, spatial and social).

2- Valuing the risks

We value the risks on the basis of the probability of their occurrence (0–25% / 25–50% / 50–75% / 75–100%) X the severity of the consequences. The consequences are distinguished from the aspects:

  • Time (for example: delay 0–3 months / 3–6 months / 6–12 months / > 12 months).
  • Money (for example: additional costs 0–0.5M / 0.5M — 2M / 2M — 5M / >5M).

3- Mapping of control measures

We map out a set of control measures for each risk. We also determine who will actually implement the control measures.

4- Implementation of control measures

The responsible teams and individuals ensure that the measures are actually taken.

5- Evaluation of control measures

On a regular basis, we check whether the control measures have been implemented and whether the measures have had the desired effect.

6- Perform update risk analysis

After the evaluation of the control measures, we update the list of risks, as it originally resulted from the risk analysis. This means we make an assessment of which risks can still occur and which cannot. We will also identify possible new risks and add these to the list.
